Software is a many-layered thing. And within each tier you’ll find further sub-layers – multiplying out like a fractal zoom. Like the OSI model, some layers are more interesting than others – depending on personal preference. I personally get a kick out of building frameworks and tools; more so than user-level apps. There’s enough variety in the full stack to keep all developers happy, although it can take a while to settle into a comfortable groove. Each to their own I say. The one thing I can’t abide is those who choose to ignore the clear delineations and short-circuit the stack. Do it in tiers, or do it in tears.
