My best thinking time during the day is in my car, on the way to work. It doesn’t work so well on the way home as that is more a slow release of tension from the day!
Anyway, I often have good ideas, or come to reasonable-sounding conclusions in my car. But these are quickly forgotten by the time I arrive in the office. I have tried recording my car sessions, but I hate listening to myself (I pity my colleagues on whom I regularly inflict this), and I rarely have time to return to those recordings and pick out the good bits.
So I may now reward myself with a CAR day – wherein I will resume the car thinking after arriving at work, and not let other office pressures derail me.
To that end it needs a good acronym expansion. I have come up with “Constructive Analytical Reverie“, which I feel nicely covers both the unstructured approach and the valuable output.
I was supposed to have my first CAR day today, but it hasn’t happened – due to other office pressures. At least I made notes this morning upon arrival at work. Maybe tomorrow…
I now think this should be “CAR time”.
Same acronym, which I still like.
Who can afford the luxury of a day put aside for anything?
